What are the Courses conducted by the Institute?

The long term courses conducted are :
Undergraduate courses
Bachelor Degree in Occupational Therapy (BOT)
Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy (BPT)
Bachelor Degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics (BPO)
These courses are affiliated to Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.

What is the duration of these courses?

4 Years and 6 months including 6 months compulsory internship for Undergraduate courses.

How many seats are reserved for SC, ST, PH etc.?

15% of seats for SC and 7.5% of seats for ST are reserved in
each course.

One seat in each course is reserved for
Physically handicapped. The disability should not be less than 40% and it should not be a
hindrance for their studies/training.

All these students must fulfil the
eligibility requirement and must appear for CET.

Three seats in BPT, two seats in BOT
and one seat in BPO courses are nominated by the Ministry of Social Justice and
Empowerment, Govt. of India from the backward states.

What is the minimum qualification/eligibility for these courses?

For General candidates, a pass in the final examination of the 10 plus 2 system in Science stream or its equivalent with 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology for BOT and BPT courses. 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics for BPO course. For SC/ST/PH candidates the requirement is 40% aggregated in these subjects. Passing in English as one of the subjects is essential for all the courses.

 

The candidate is not eligible if s/he has discontinued the higher study for more than three years from the date of passing of qualifying examination.

 

The candidates who have appeared for qualifying examination can also appear for CET. They have to produce the original Marks sheet of the qualifying examination at the time of counseling.

Age requirement for the courses?

Candidates must have completed minimum 17 years and maximum 22 years as on 31st August. Date of Birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/Matriculation Certificate only will be treated as authentic.

How the selection is made?

Candidates are selected through the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted on all India basis. Based on the performance in this examination a merit list is prepared. The final admission is made according to the order of merit and the preference given by the candidate in their application. A counselling of candidates is done at Olatpur.

Which are the centres of Common Entrance Test?

Bhubneswar, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ranchi, Raipur, Srinagar, Bhopal, Chennai, Patna.

When is the application issued?

The advertisement will appear in leading English and regional language newspapers in February/March every year and applications will be issued in the month of April/ May.

When is the Common Entrance Test held?

June/July.

When will be the CET results announced?

Last week of July.

What is the cost of Application Form and Prospectus & how to make the payment?

  • From Counter at the Institute - By paying Demand Draft.

  • Rs. 500 for General category and Rs. 400 for SC/ST/PH candidates.

  • By Post from Institute and other centres - Rs. 550 for General category and Rs. 450 for SC/ST/PH candidates. Only by Demand Draft drawn in favour of DIRECTOR, SVNIRTAR payable at Cuttack, Orissa.

What would be the last date for submission of application forms?

Last week of May/ First week of June.

What are the documents/certificates required?

·       
At the time of Counselling the following documents are required in
original.

·       
Original Admit Card of CET.

·       
Proof of date of birth.

·       
Certificate and mark sheet of the qualifying examination issued by
the Board/University.

·       
Conduct and Character Certificate from the Head of the Institution
from where the qualifying examination was passed.

·       
Certificate of Medical Fitness signed by the Registered Medical
Practitioner.

·       
SC/ST/PH/OBC certificate from appropriate authorities.

·       
Migration Certificate in original from the respective regular
school/college/university where the student studied last.

How do you communicate to the candidates of their selection?

Only selected candidates based on the order of merit will be intimated by Registered post to attend counseling at the Institute. The merit list will also be hosted on the website – http://www.nirtar.nic.in

When counseling/admission are done?

Third week of August.

When do the classes commence?

From first week of September.

What are the Hostel facilities, fees etc?

There are two separate hostels for boys and girls accommodating 190 and 100 students.

What about ragging?

Ragging is prohibited. Any student found indulging in this act will be dealt severely. Action taken may include expulsion from the Institute and criminal proceedings.

Where are clinical classes conducted?

Classes of Anatomy, Physiology, Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, Bio-Chemistry etc. are held at Sri Ram Chandra Bhanaja Medical College, Cuttack. Classes of all other subjects are held at the Institute.

Where Internship to be done?

Normally at SVNIRTAR. If student wants to do it elsewhere s/he has to get the prior permission from the Institute and it can be done only at recognised rehabilitation centres. To give an exposure to rural rehabilitation Interns are posted at District Disability Rehabilitation Centres (DDRCs) set up by the Ministry/Institute.

How are the teaching facilities?

Well qualified faculties take the classes. Guest lecturers and experts from other institutes are also organised. Classrooms are equipped with good furniture and teaching aids. There are three workshops for fabricating rehabilitation aids and appliances.

What are the Library facilities available?

The library has a very good stack of professional books, journals, reports, reprints, Audiovisual aids etc.. It subscribes over 100 professional/technical journals. Computerised bibliographic search and Internet browsing facilities are available. Library is kept open from 8.30am to 9.00pm.

Can I change my admission from one subject to the other subject?

No. Once order of preference is exercised no subsequent change will be entertained.

Can I change the centre of Examination?

Two centres can be selected in order of preference at the time of filling of form. If the seat is not available at the first preference, candidate will be accommodated in the second preference place.

Pass in BPT/BSc. (PT) and BOT/ BSc (OT) from any recognised University for MPT and MOT

What is the duration of these post graduate courses?

2 Years for Masters Degree courses in PT and OT .

3 years for DNB

How many seats are admitted every year in each post graduate course?

How the selection is made?

Admission is based on the performance
in the Entrance Examination held at Institute in the month of June-August for MPT/MOT.

As per the Merit in M.B.B.S.
examination for DNB.

What are the fees of post graduate courses ?

Institute does not charge any fees for
DNB course. A stipend of Rs. 5000 is paid.
