Occupational Therapy often called OT is the use of treatments to develop, recover or maintain the daily living and work skills of people with a physical, mental or developmental disorder or dysfunction condition. Occupational Therapy is a client-cantered practice that places a premium on the progress towards the client’s goals. Occupational Therapy interventions focus on remediation of the biological component, adapting the environment, modifying the task, teaching the skill, and educating the client/family in order to increase participation in d performance of daily activities, particularly those that are meaningful to the client.
The department of Occupational Therapy (OT) has two major components i.e. Academic activities and Clinical activities. Academic activities include conducting two long-term courses (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) and several short-term programmes. Clinical activities include the assessment, planning and providing the occupational therapy services to various types of patients.

The Dept. of O.T. has the following sections:

3. Hand Splinting
4. Activities for Daily Living (ADL)
5. Pediatric Occupational Therapy
6. Sensory Integration Therapy
7. Special Equipment
8. Assessment & follow-up
Services available at the Dept. of OT:
1. Evaluation and management of functional deficits
2. Developmental therapy
3. Hand therapy
4. ADL training
5. Advise to the disabled on Barrier-free environment
6. Sensory integration therapy
7. Splints & assistive devices
* The department provides services to indoor patients on Saturday also.

Apart from classroom lectures, clinical and practical demonstrations, weekly seminars, case presentations, journal discussions, etc. are also arranged for students, interns and M.O.T. students. The passed out students are successfully placed in different Hospitals/Institutes within the country and abroad. Study tour is a part of study programme, usually the final year students visit various Institutes of the country for two weeks.

Long Term Courses:
Currently the Institute conducts four and a half years duration (including six months Internship) degree course in Occupational Therapy (B.O.T.) with an intake capacity of 62 seats and at two years duration Master in Occupational Therapy (M.O.T) course with an intake capacity of 15 seats. The specializations available for MOT are ‘Rehabilitation’ and ‘Developmental Disabilities’, ‘Neurology’ & ‘Hand Rehabilitation’. Semester system examination is introduced for the BOT course with effect from 2008 admission and 2009 examination.

Short term Courses:
It conducts short orientation courses for qualified Occupational Therapists of the country and for the Persons With Disabilities and their family members also. The participants are paid TA and DA as per Government rules.

Guest Faculties invited:
Guest speakers are invited for delivering lectures in long term courses and short term courses.

Internship:
After successful completion of 4 year BOT course the students undergone six months rotatory internship. Outside students may also apply for internship programme as per the norm fixed by the Institute.
