The Department designed and developed light weight low cost Prosthetic and Orthotic Devices and Other Rehabilitation Aids under the Research Project funded by Science and Technology Mission Mode, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. The Endoskeleton technology designed is economical cost wise and better import substitute and benefit to large number of Lower Limb Amputees. Due to light weight the amputee needs very less energy expenditure for ambulation. The Aids and Appliances designed by the Department are:
• Modular B. K. Prosthesis
• Modular A. K. Prosthesis
• Modular B. K. Prosthesis:
Modular B. K. Prosthesis is a technological innovation that is aimed to restore efficient mobility of Below Knee Amputees so that they can lead a productive life in the society. The prosthesis consist of Polypropylene thermoplastic custom molded socket, endoskeletal prefabricated components made of Aluminium alloy and prefabricated prosthetic foot and cosmetic cover. The prosthesis is being fabricated and fitted to the amputees based on the latest materials available in our country. The fabrication of prosthesis is very simple and needs very less time. The prosthesis is very easy to wear and is durable and comfortable. The Prosthesis was successfully fitted to large number of Below Knee Amputees.
• Modular A. K. Prosthesis:
The Department has designed and developed Modular Above Knee Prosthesis with Four-bar linkage Knee Joint based on the Endoskeleton technology. The Technology is applicable for Prosthetic fitment and Rehabilitation of large number of Above Knee amputees. The technology developed for Above Knee amputees can also be used for prosthetic fitments of Through Knee and Hip Disarticulation Amputees as well. Most of the higher level of Lower Limb amputees will be benefited by this light weight, low cost and more comfortable prosthesis. The Four-bar linkage Knee joint incorporated in the prosthesis provide inherent knee stability through out the gait cycle. The prosthesis also has Superior cosmetic appearance and surface soft feel.
Other Research Activities:
The Instituted has been constantly introducing new methods, techniques and upgrading existing technology for development of suitable aids & appliances for benefit of Person With Disabilities. For improving and leading a meaningful life of the Person With Disabilities many aids and appliances were also designed and developed by considering the various clinical conditions. The aids and appliances designed and developed are:
• Thermoplastic Polypropylene Orthosis
• Modular Upper limb Prosthesis
• Multipurpose Orthosis for paralyzed children.
Participation in the Conferences and Seminars:
Based on the various Research Activities carried out in the department there are good numbers of Scientific Papers were presented in the National and International conferences and some of the papers were appreciated by the professionals and received best paper award.
